Kanazawa: Samurai District
After our excellent, high-end lunch, we walked around the nearby Samurai district, called Nagamachi.
Nagamachi Buke Yashiki District
Nagamachi Samurai District (長町武家屋敷跡) 🗾 is located at the foot of the former Kanazawa Castle. It is where samurai and their families used to reside. The streets and the general character have been preserved. We visited a restored samurai residence, named Nomura-ke (武家屋敷跡 野村家), which displays the lifestyle and artifacts of the era when samurai were at their peak of prosperity. The Nomura were a high-ranking samurai family who, like many other samurai, went broke when the feudal era ended with the Meiji Period. We checked out its various rooms, garden, and special tea ceremony rooms. The home also features a family Buddhist altar and a Koi pond in the garden.

After walking around the district a little more, we made our way to a place where we could find a taxi to take us to the largest geisha district. We came upon a restaurant described to us as a popular yakitori place that didn’t require reservations. We later decided to walk to that restaurant from the hotel for dinner.
