Kyoto: Gion District

THIS PAGE A WORK IN PROGRESS

After lunch, we made our way to the Gion district and walked around the area. Due to our lack of prior preparation and study of the area and map, we may have skipped a lot of it. We started at Yasaka Jinja Nishiromon Gate, the main gate to Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社). At that time, we found the area behind the gate and towards the shrine very full of people and stalls selling touristy type stuff. We walked through it quickly, crossed the street, and headed toward Gion Corner. Here we saw two formally dressed women, but, given their age, they were at best Maiko and perhaps just locals.
