Update from Kurt's family:

The following is an update received from Eric, Kurt's brother on behalf of the Schwenk family (via Bill Joos who is in contact with Eric):
Family
Eric, and his sister Heidi, are in Hilton (Rochester) NY with their father Franz. They will be there for some time. As any developments take place near the crash site, some of them will be going back and forth. They have their better moments and their bad ones. There is a growing frustration with events/delays at the crash site and the uncertainly of the recovery of the bodies/remains. The press crush was horrible; they had to retain a lawyer to chase 'em away.
Bill Joos shared with Eric the details of the gathering at Paula's a few nights ago. He will share those details with his sister and father, and he took comfort from the collection of love and memories that were expressed that evening. (Does anyone know who "owns" the memorial book that many were writing in that evening?  Getting a photocopy to Kurt's family before the "celebration" (see below) may be a source of tangible and visible support for them.)
Here are the addresses for the Schwenk family members. Since they are all in Rochester now, any mail sent to Palo Alto or Hampton Bays won't get to Eric or Heidi until they return home. Therefore the Hilton address is your best bet to reach the entire family. They specifically requested NO FLOWERS.
Eric Schwenk (brother)
31 Ponquogue Ave
Hampton Bays, NY 11946
Heidi (Schwenk) Harden (sister)
965 Elsinore Drive
Palo Alto, CA 94303
Franz Schwenk (father)
107 Bailey Road
Hilton, NY 14468
Obituary, celebration and donations
An obituary will be published in the local Bay area papers later this week.
There will be a "celebration" (specifically not a memorial service) for Kurt, his mother, his sister and her husband, in Rochester, NY, next Saturday, November 13, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. This will be held at the "Rochester Yacht Club", 555 Saint Paul Blvd., Rochester, NY, 14617.
Having several dozen cards arrive, at Franz's home, before this event from everyone would be great.
If you are planning on attending this, please send an email to Bill Joos mailto:bill@garage.com and he'll put you in touch with all others who are traveling to this celebration. He'll also try and get area hotel information to share.
Here is one Bay Area scenario, SFO to Rochester NY, that Bill quickly priced ($1291):
Friday 11/12: SFO 8:56A — > ORD — > ROC 7:10P (AA 84 + 818)
Sunday 11/14: ROC 9:58A — > ORD — > SFO 2:28P (AA 1427 + 1063)
You will have to hustle to get the 7 day  advanced purchase price. If anyone who is traveling finds a better route/deal, again, let Bill know  and he'll share it with any others who are going.
The family has asked that should anyone want to contribute in his/their name(s), that donations be made to one of three good causes:
  • The "Rochester Yacht Club Sailors Trust" (c/o the above address). This trust sponsors youth sailing programs. Both Kurt and his mother were involved with this program.
  • The "Lakeside Foundation", 156 West Ave., Rockport, NY, 14420. This foundation runs the hospital where both Kurt and his sister Mitzi were born.
  • A charity of the donor's choice.
At this time, there are no known plans for a memorial service on the West coast for Kurt, Paula and Gavin, although several people suggested they might involve themselves in organizing one. Eric was going to see if Heidi was planning one on her return. If anyone is planning on taking a lead in organizing one locally, please contact Bill Joos or Bill will serve as a clearing house to avoid any duplicate efforts. Kurt was baptized Lutheran but was, per his brother, not a member of any local church. I would appreciate any location suggestions.

Update from Paula's East Coast friends:

This comes to use via Julia Behrends (Julia_Behrends@compuserve.com):
The Boston group of Friends will be meeting tonight, Thursday, for a remembrance of our friends and to console ourselves.  There will also be a formal Memorial and Celebration of Life in Boston.  We have not set a date because we are waiting for the Families guidance.  I am in touch with Paula's Sister and Gavin's Mother, and Sister.

Reminder

If you can think of anyone who should be added to the email list, contact
In particular, we are looking for email addresses for Kurt's rugby friends.

The unabridged email list:

This list now contains many addresses (over 160). For my sanity, and not any other purpose, the list has been split into several parts. That means I had to categorize each one of you, possibly incorrectly. Please forgive me.
